The Feldenkrais Method applied to children

Working with children requires a very specific approach. We have to deal with their fears, self-protective reactions, or withdrawal from interaction.

Some children cannot clearly say or otherwise express what they are feeling. This is obvious for babies, but it's also true for children suffering from difficulties speaking, autism, etc.

This can create a distance with the Feldenkrais^® teacher. The distance between child and teacher is sometimes accentuated by the presence of a parent during the lesson. The question becomes how to manage a relationship of three or more people so that everyone is learning.

As Feldenkrais teachers, we find ways to encourage and challenge a child's progress while at the same time evoking interest and enjoyment. We do that by moving and listening to the child in such a way as to bring the child to listen to him or herself in new, transformative ways.

The Feldenkrais practitioner communicates by moving with the child—not only by moving the child.

This course helps Feldenkrais teachers and teachers-to-be develop their capacity to move with their students.

Moving with a Child addresses the foundation of the work with babies and children: non-verbal communication, movement, perception and attention difficulties, developmental delays, and special needs (dyslexia, hemiplegia, autism, cerebral palsy, etc.) and includes strategies for recognizing, augmenting and transforming abilities.

Lynn Bullock, who assists Larry during the course, is a Feldenkrais teacher and one of the two certified Anat Baniel Method For Children With Special Needs practitioners in France. Lynn has trained with Anat Baniel, Anat Krivine, Eilat Almagor, Carl Ginsburg, Jeremy Krauss, Larry Goldfarb, Myriam Pfeffer, and Paul Newton.

Lynn is known for her innovative work in applying the Feldenkrais Method to improve vision—especially with children and adults with neurological difficulties.

Today Lynn is committed to the development of the Feldenkrais Method in its application to children in France. Within this intention she has associated with the world's best practitioners. Lynn sponsors advanced trainings so they can share their expriences, thoughts, and insights to enable colleagues to develop their work with children.

By design, each advanced training is independent from the others. This allows each Feldenkrais teacher to choose to participate in one, several, or all of them, according to his or her interest and availability.
