Feldenkrais Training in New York City

Program Faculty

The faculty2 of the New York Feldenkrais Teacher Training consists of the finest accredited trainers and assistant trainers from around the world. Donna Blank (Washington, DC), Deborah Bowes (San Francisco, CA), Paul Newton (Paris, France), Olena Nitefor (Toronto, ON, Canada), Alan Questel (Sante Fe, NM), Katrin Smithback (Sante Fe, NM), and Arlyn Zones (San Francisco, CA) have committed to being part of the core teaching staff for the program. Working in conjunction with the educational director, each faculty member participates in the design of the program, leads each segment, and coordinates the team of assistant trainers working with her or him. The trainers and assistants work as a teamÑteaching Awareness Through Movement¨, doing demonstrations, giving Functional Integration¨ lessons, leading discussions and directing small groups together.

Assistant trainers from North America and Europe have been contacted about participating in the program. As is customary at this point, we have not completed the assistant trainer schedule; this will give us flexibility in creating staffing that meets the specific needs of you and the other trainees. However, Scott Clark (London, England), Anna Johnson-Chase (Milwaukee, WI), Marcy Lindheimer (New York, NY), Edna Rossenas (San Francisco, CA) and Beth Rubenstein (Los Angeles, CA) have all agreed to serve as assistant trainers for the program.

International training accreditation guidelines require that training programs maintain a trainee to teacher ratio of 20ÐtoÐ1 for the first two years and of 15ÐtoÐ1 for the final two years. Other experienced Feldenkrais teachers from North America and elsewhere will also be part of the educational team. They will serve as assistant interns: experienced practitioners who will provide support for the training and give FI lessons.
2 The North American Feldenkrais Training Accreditation Board has established strict criteria that must be met by those who want to be trainers and assistant trainers. These guidelines require that a trainer have at least ten years active professional experience, have assisted through a minimum of four complete years of training and receive the support of the established body of trainers. Among other requirements, an assistant trainer must have at least five years professional experience and demonstrate proficiency in the practice of the method.
