Back Into Action
When it comes to recovering from injuries, or preventing them, we need to learn to move differently—changing the ingrained habits that interfere with comfortable, efficient motion.
Human beings are exquisitely designed to move with ease, efficiency and enjoyment. However, we move only as well as we have learned to move. Our movement education is incomplete and haphazard. Unfortunately, ability is attributed to natural talent or blamed on accident, injury, and illness. As time goes by we become aware of limitations, aches, constrictions, and the other consequences of how we move, rather than noticing how we are actually moving.
BACK INTO ACTION introduces basic Feldenkrais Method® concepts, reveals how ingrained, unrecognized habits create restrictions, and fosters our latent capabilities for effective, stress-free action.
The BACK INTO ACTION workshop was originally designed for chronic back pain patients who failed to benefit from standard exercises and treatment modalities. BACK INTO ACTION offers a series of innovative structured movement sequences that will benefit anyone with back problems, and those who work with patients with back problems, anyone who want to improve and learn more about movement, learning, and improve their performance in arts, sports, or in everyday life.
During this Awareness Through Movement® (ATM) workshop, participants use everyday movements as laboratories for uncovering and realizing our shared human potential for flexibility, strength, and gracefulness. With each other and on their own, students explore ways of moving optimally, create strategies for self-care, and enhance the simple pleasures of everyday actions.
BACK INTO ACTION is a two day workshop designed to teach you how your back works and how to put that knowledge into action. The classes supplement traditional rehabilitation programs by providing a means of directly changing the habitual postures and movements that underlie injury and pain.
This workshop utilizes an experiential approach, guiding you through gentle movement sequences. As you learn these movements, you will:
- Increase your range and ease of motion.
- Alleviate muscle spasms, stiffness and pain.
- Learn about the misconceptions that lead to common injuries.
- Cultivate efficient, pain-free movement.
- Recognize the signals that can help you prevent injury.
- Find out how muscle tension, fatigue and discomfort are often the result of the way you learned to move.
- Learn exercises you can use everyday to maintain improved flexibility, coordination and strength.
- Incorporate what you learn into your everyday activities.
